WEST CHESTER, PA— The Philadelphia Jr Flyers are pleased to announce the commitment of 16U National forward, Michael Cameron, to the  Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers for the 2021-22 season.  The Engineers compete in the ECAC, along with Brown, Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, St. Lawrence, as well as recent National Champions, Yale (2013) and Union (2014).

Born 7/24/2002, Cameron is currently the youngest player on the JRF 16U National roster.  This season marks Michael’s 5th season with the Jr Flyers organization., most recently in 2015-16 when he tallied 68 points in 28 AYHL games at Bantam Minor.  His father, Jeff, and mother, Shelly, have also been major assets through the years to the Jr. Flyers organization, as a coach and manager, respectively.

Cameron can be described as a complete player, one that can contribute at both ends of the ice and possesses great leadership qualities.  Cameron is a highly-skilled player that makes others around him better.  The 5’8”, 158-pound forward,  is 2018-eligible for the USHL Phase 1 Draft.

With his commitment to RPI, Michael will be joining his older brother, Matthew (2019-20 commit), as an Engineer.  While Michael acknowledged he always thought it’d be cool to play college hockey with his brother, he stated his reasons for selecting RPI were mainly “because of the great coaching, hockey program, and academics”.

Michael also spoke highly of RPI’s arena, the Houston Field House.  Despite the renovations through the years, Cameron likes that the old barn has maintained “a historic feel to it.”.  The Field House is the nations third-oldest college hockey rink and boasts the largest capacity of any ECAC arena.

Cameron summed up his commitment convincingly in saying, “I just felt it was a perfect fit for me”.   The Jr. Flyers coaching staff and ownership that has had the honor of working with Michael through the years are thrilled with the news and excited to watch him continue to grow as a person and player.
