Girls 16U AA win 3 – 2 on Hanson’s OT goal in game two of Pool Play at Nationals

Payton Hanson scored 4:40 into overtime to give the Jr. Flyers Girls 16U AA a 3 – 2 win over the Baldwin/Riverfalls Black Cats in game two of Pool Play at Nationals in Amherst, NY.

Samantha Hughes scored a powerplay goal just 2:18 into the first period to give the Jr. Flyers an early 1 -0 lead. As time was running out in the opening period, the Black Cats would even the score.

Jr. Flyers defenseman Grace Schnyder was called for tripping at 8:05 of the second to give the Black Cats the extra attacker. Thirty seconds later the Black Cats would take a 2 – 1 lead. With two minutes left in the middle stanza, Kathryn Palmer (who had three points on the night – 1G and 2 assists) would lite the lamp to tie the game.

After a scoreless third period, Palmer would set up Hanson for her game winner in the extra period. Mattie Robitzer turned aside 25 of 27 shot in the win. The victory gives the Jr. Flyers a 2 – 0 record in Pool Play.

The 16U AA team will play the Florida Alliance tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:50PM for their third game at Nationals.
