Girls 16U AAA rout Pride 7 – 3 in game two of Pool Play at Nationals

The Jr. Flyers 16U AAA routed the Washington Pride 7 – 3 in game two of their Pool Play at Nationals in Irvine, CA late last night.

Makayla Javier and Ava Rinker each had a pair of goals while Grace Dwyer had three points (all assists) and Riley Grimley (1 goal and 1 assist) and Sydney Bradley (2 assists) each had two points.

The second period had a combined five goals scored. After entering the middle stanza leading 1 – 0 on Grimley’s goal, the Pride would tie it at one just 2:54 into the second. The Jr. Flyers then would score three consecutive short-handed goals from Rinker, Thalia D'Elia and Rachel Martin.

The Pride would then conclude the scoring in the period at the 9:04 mark to cut their deficit in half.

Washington would make it a 4 – 3 game just eight seconds into the third period. But Javier would score two goals and Rinker would hit the back of the net for her second goal of the game to pull the Jr. Flyers away for the 7 – 3 win.

Sophia Szelag was the winning goalie.

The 16U AAA will play their third game of Pool Play against the Minnesota Elite Gray today at 4:55PM EDT.
