Two Jr. Flyers teams win championships at Philadelphia Shootout

The Jr. Flyers 2009 and 2006 teams won their respective divisions in the Philadelphia Shootout – a Memorial Day weekend tournament held at Ice Line.

The ’09 team entered the championship game as the number one seed having previously defeated the Knighthawks 6 – 3 in game one, beating Mayhem 4 – 1 in game two, beating the Valley Forge Minutemen 5 – 1 in game three and the SHD Selects 7 – 0 in game four of round robin play. The Jr. Flyers defeated fourth seed SHD Selects 3 – 1 in the semi-finals, and they then defeated the third seed Knighthawks 5 -0 in the finals.

The ’06 team was the number one seed going into the championship game. They had defeated Team Kanaly 5 – 0 in game one, beat DC Selects 8 – 0 in game two and then beat SHD selects 3 – 1 in game three of round robin play. They defeated the fourth seed DC Selects 6 – 2 in semi-final play, and they then beat the second seed SHD Selects 6 – 2 in the finals.

Overall, it was an excellent tournament for the Jr. Flyers organization. In addition to the two division championships, the ’08 and 16U teams advanced to the semi-finals while 621 Hockey (comprised of three-fourths of the Jr. Flyers 2010 team) and the ’05 team reached the finals for their respective division.
