The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers are pleased to announce the organization’s Players of the Week for week ending November 3, 2019. The Players of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2019-20 regular season that recognizes top performing players for the Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels. Only players that are recommended by their respective teams are considered for the Players of the Week award.

Pee Wee Player of the Week – Nick La Buono, Forward, Pee Wee Major

The 2007 Philadelphia Jr. Flyers only had one game this weekend, but it was a significant one in the AYHL division standings, as the team took on the 1st Place New Jersey Devils.  The Jr. Flyers came away with an important 3-1 victory, and the full team effort left Coach Joe Moran with a challenging decision to pick just one player of the week.

"This game was won by the strong performance of the entire team.  Our team defense was relentless throughout the game.  Our forwards and defenseman blocked ten or more shots, and when the puck found its way through to our goaltender, Matt Crawford, he made the big saves.  In the end, I am choosing Nick La Buono as our Player of the Week because he was right in the middle of so many of the big plays, we needed to win this game” said head coach Joe Moran.

One play in particular, in the middle of the third period, stood out to Coach Moran that epitomized Nick's outstanding game within a full team effort.  "The play started with an offensive zone steal by Hunter Haas from his left-wing position, and Hunter quickly got himself into a shooting lane.  As that is happening, Nick turned on the jets and raced to the front of the net.  Hunter fired off his shot, low and to the goalies left pad side.  Nick fought his way to the perfect spot in front of the crease, and when the rebound came off the pad, Nick was there to bury our 2nd goal, and ultimately the decisive goal of the game.  Nick knew where he needed to be and he got there determined to finish off an all-around great sequence from that line." recounted Coach Moran.  "This is a win for our team to build upon with several bigger games coming in the next few weeks.  I am proud of each player for the effort, and I am proud of Nick for leading the way with all of the hustle and speed he brought to every shift” concluded Moran.
