The Philadelphia Revolution defeated the EHL Jr. Flyers 3 – 1 in matinee action today at Ice Line. It was the first time in three tries this season that the Revolution had defeated the Jr. Flyers.

Just 6:04 into the opening period, the Revolution’s Anthony Bench was called for slashing to give the Jr. Flyers the man advantage. Twenty-five seconds later Anton Martino gave the home team the early 1 – 0 lead. After Shane Ward’s shot went wide, Martino picked up the loose puck at the near side faceoff circle. Martino sent the puck back to John McCuen at the point. McCuen passed it over to Justin Brown on his left who immediately passed it down low to Billy McDevitt. The Jr. Flyers co-captain sent a pass out front to Martino who one-timed it past Revolution netminder Duncan Nichols-Delay for his second goal of the season.

With 9:44 remaining in the second period, McCuen was called for hooking to put the Revolution on the power play. A minute later Brayden Patricia knotted the score. After the Revolution couldn’t convert on a 2-on-0, Saava Smirnov brought the puck back into the Jr. Flyers zone and when towards the net. As he got down low to the right of Jr. Flyers goalie Aron Hansson, Smirnov sent the puck out front to Patricia who was stopped by Hansson but the puck laid on the goal line and Patricia knocked it in the net to tie the game at one.

After the Jr. Flyers won the draw deep inside their own zone, the puck went to center ice where it was picked up by the Revolution’s George Boyle. Boyle backhanded a bounce pass off the far side boards to Carter Jones who entered the Jr. Flyers zone on a three-on-one.  As Jones got to the top of the circle, he passed the puck over to Bench on his right and Bench one-timed it past Hansson to give the Revolution a 2 – 1 lead with 6:18 left in the second.

With time running out in regulation, Hansson was pulled for the extra attacker. After the Revolution was the draw inside their own zone, the puck was picked up by Patricia at center ice. Patricia was going towards the net but was taken out by Jr. Flyers defenseman Jake Maley. After the puck was touched up, it was called an empty net goal since Patricia was in the clear and the officials felt the puck would have entered the Jr. Flyers net. It was Patricia’s second goal of the game to close out the scoring.

Hansson stopped 27 of 30 shots while Nichols-Delay stopped 29 of 30. Click here for the box score.

The Jr. Flyers next game will be on Saturday, December 7 at 8:00 PM when they host the Connecticut Roughriders.
