The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers are pleased to announce the organization’s Players of the Week for week ending December 8, 2019. The Players of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2019-20 regular season that recognizes top performing players for the Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels. Only players that are recommended by their respective teams are considered for the Players of the Week award.

Midget 15U National - Grant Hineman, Defenseman

The 15U National team went undefeated this past weekend sweeping a three-game series against the Long Island Royals by a combined score of 15 – 6, and defenseman Grant Hineman had five points (4 goals and 1 assist) in those games.

The 15U team is 13-2-01 in sixteen AYHL games this season, only two points out of first place, and they have three games in hand. The West Chester, PA native leads the team with seventeen total points (8 goals and 9 assists) and goals (eight).

“We had a good weekend against the Royals” stated head coach Roman Bussetti. “I was really pleased with the way we played and are playing. We have a good group of boys and they work hard but this past weekend Grant stood out” concluded Bussetti.

Pee Wee Major Players of the Week – Michael Kealey, Goaltender

This past weekend, the 2007 Philadelphia Jr. Flyers traveled to Cleveland, OH to take part in a Tier 1 Elite Hockey League Showcase.  Coach Joe Moran was prepared for a weekend that would be a big challenge for the team, "I talked to the team going into the weekend that we are going to have to bring our best effort to this showcase if we were going to compete for wins.  We needed to be prepared for a battle in every phase of the game, as we were going to be facing several highly ranked teams."

"The competition did not disappoint, and every team showed up to play exactly the way I thought they would" said Coach Joe Moran.  "All too often throughout the weekend, we were not successfully containing the pressure that was being applied on us defensively.  That offensive pressure from our opponents put a big burden on our goaltenders, which is where my Player of the Week, Michael Kealey, was one of our silver linings through a tough weekend.  In the 3 games Michael started he faced a total of 143 shots.  The shots were just coming at him in waves, and he stood in there battling through every play and every game.  He positioned himself well and gave us every ounce of energy he had, no matter how difficult the situation."  Coach Moran went on to explain what most impressed him about Michael's performance, "All too often we just look at the stat sheet or the wins/losses when evaluating a young player, but that misses an important component which is the character of that player.  This weekend was not an easy one for our team, or our goalies, but Michael kept such a positive attitude throughout.  He accepted the challenge put in front of him and was 'all business' in dealing with it.  Michael has shown me an ability to remain even keeled through the high's and low's, and I believe that is such an important part of being a successful goaltender.  I am very impressed with the way Michael carried himself throughout this weekend, and I believe the spirit he brings to our locker room sets up the whole team for success as we move along in our season."
