O'Neill & Kolarik Selected for Team USA

Congratulations to Jr Flyers Alumni, Brian O’Neill and Chad Kolarik, on being named to the USA Men’s National team for the 2018 Winter Olympics.  The Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

O’Neill, a Yardley native, played his Midget hockey with the Jr Flyers for Coach Bud Dombroski.  The 5’9”, 172-pound winger has always had a knack for producing offense and that has shown at all levels.  The former Bobby Clarke Award winner (Flyers Cup MVP – Germantown Academy), went from the Jr Flyers to the Chicago Steel of the USHL, before arriving at Yale in 2008.  After an impressive 4-year NCAA career, which included 163 points as well as Ivy League player of the year honors, O’Neill played 3 seasons in the AHL for Manchester.  In 2014-15, he became a Calder Cup Champion and the AHL’s Most Valuable Player.  After a stint with the NJ Devils, O’Neill went overseas to play in the KHL.  Currently, he plays for Jokerit, where he has 12-13-25 in 33 games so far this season.

Kolarik, who played his Bantam hockey with the Jr Flyers, is another skilled offensive forward that will be contributing for team USA this February.  The Abington-native attended LaSalle College High School before heading to Deerfield Academy.  This will not be Kolarik’s first experience representing USA Hockey; the former 7th round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, played for the USA National Development Program for 2 years and played in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2004.  Kolarik played his college hockey at the University of Michigan, where he put up 174 points in 163 games.  After a productive AHL career that saw him score over 200 points, Kolarik left to play overseas in the SHL, then the KHL.  Kolarik currently plays in Germany in the DEL for Adler Mannheim, where he is a point-per-game player this year.

Best of luck to Brian, Chad, and all of Team USA in South Korea!
