After the Holiday break the JRFlyers were back in action against the New Jersey Renegades. Saturday, they were on the road and on Sunday they were back at the Ice Line.
Tyler English put the JRFlyers on the board late in the 1st period firing a shot from the slot for the 1-0 lead. In the final minute it was Ben Meisinger with a one timer shot to beat (G) Lakatos setup by Wood to give the JRFlyers a 2-0 lead. English would notch his second goal of the game midway through the 2nd period making it JRFlyers. The Renegades would respond scoring on (G) Rickenbaker twice within six seconds of each other as the JRFlyers were clinging to a 3-2 lead. In the 3rd period the JRFlyers would retake control with goals coming from Kevin Troy, and Mark Bianchi. The Renegades would score one more time, but Matt Wood would have the final goal for the JRFlyers as they win it by a score of 6-3. Rickenbaker would pick up the win in net making 35 saves.
The JRFlyers got on the board as Nick Pacitti rushed into the offensive zone and ripped a shot by (G) Fornabia for the 1-0 lead. The JRFlyers were shorthanded and it was Pacitti again, this time from the sharp angle and (G) Fornabia wasn’t ready for it and the puck slipped by him making it 2-0. After that goal Fornabia was benched and Jake Lakatos would finish the game. In the 2nd period Brown, and Carsello beautifully setup Kevin Troy who fired it by (G) Lakatos for the 3-0 lead. In the 3rd period the JRFlyers continued buzzing on offense with multiple chances. After a few missed opportunities Dougherty would feed Anton in the slot and he banged home the fourth goal of the game and it was 4-0. The Renegades would spoil the shutout for (G) Savino and net a goal but the JRFlyers would sweep the weekend against the Renegades with a 4-1 win. Savino would pick up the win making 28 saves.
This weekend is a big one for the JRFlyers as the best team in the league heads to the Ice Line. The Vermont Lumberjacks have played 29 games and have a 24-5 (48pts) record. They are currently on a six game win streak. Before coming to the Ice Line the Lumberjacks will take on the Valley Jr. Warriors (7-19-3) on Wednesday (Jan. 10th). The JRFlyers have played 26 games and have a 21-2-3 record (45pts) which is tops in the Southern Conference. The JRFlyers have already had success against Vermont with a big win back in October. It was showcase format (2-25s) but the JRFlyers took care of business with a 5-1 win. This is the second and final time these teams will meet, but a playoff matchup could be looming. On Sunday the JRFlyers take on the New England Wolves. The last meeting with them was also at the Showcase in October and the JRFlyers won 5-3. The Wolves are currently 10-20-2 and are 4-6 in their last 10 games. Before coming to the Ice Line on Sunday, they will take on the Little Flyers Saturday afternoon. The JRFlyers started off the second half with a sweep of the Renegades, and by the end of this week they have the possibility to be the top team in the Premier Division.
