JRFlyers forward Alex Syring is heading for NCAA DIII Hockey.  The Toledo, Ohio native and ’97 birthyear has committed to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Syring joined the JRFlyers late in the season and played 13 games.

Even though Syring was here for a short time, he will carry on the lessons he learned while with the JRFlyers. “My time here has been great. Coach Jerry and Jerramie (Domish) have helped me a lot and it is a great program. They helped me achieve my goal to play college hockey and I’m happy I came to the JRFlyers.”

College hockey is an adjustment that all players must make, and Syring is ready for that with the help of what he has learned while with the JRFlyers. “I’ve been working on my defensive zone game ever since I got here. Coach Domish has helped me fix the defensive part of my game which is big in college hockey. The Competition in the EHL is great, I think I became a better player by playing in this league.”

While attending Northland, Syring will major in Business. Syring has also set goals for himself. “My main goal is to get my degree. For hockey, my goal is to be a complete player in all areas of the game. I want to bring my compete level, grit, and energy to the team.”

Syring is headed for College Hockey and he thanked everyone for their help along the way: “I’d like to thank my family, I’ve worked really hard, but I owe it to them as well. I’d like to thank my dad Scott Syring (played for Ohio State). I looked up to him growing up and I’m glad to be playing in the NCAA. It has been a goal of mine ever since I started playing, and without him I wouldn’t have achieved it. He's made everything positive for me and he's always supported my dream. He’s made a lot of sacrifices for me, so thank you dad. I also want to thank my sisters Madison and McKensie and my mother for helping me follow my dream, and my grandparents for their support. Thank you to Steve Dickinson, Nick Parillo, and Mike Mankowski, and Dan Jones for all of your help.”

Coach Domish saw Syring on the ice and was happy with his contributions to the team despite not being with the JRFlyers for a full season. “Before he came to us I had been watching him for two years and liked his skating and how he competes on every play. He is very focused and puts in the time required to become the best he can be. I feel once he adjusts to the college level, he will be a great defensive forward who will be very hard to play against.”

Lastly, Syring left a final message for his teammates. “I can’t thank my teammates enough, they are a great group of guys and one of the best I've ever been with. I want to thank Coach Domish for giving me a chance, and he gave me the opportunity to get to the next level.”

Congratulations Alex on a successful junior hockey career. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the JRFlyers. You move on to the NCAA, but you’ll always be a JRFlyer.
