(EHL TEAM) JRFLYERS SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

Training Camp has come and gone, the preseason has rolled through and it’s time for the 2018-19 Eastern Hockey League season. Mentioned before, the JRFlyers have four returning players: Forwards Justin Weinbrenner, Nick Kiemel, Billy McDevitt, and goaltender Albin Mulic. Mulic’s season ended early last year from a torn ACL but his recovery has gone great! Mulic possibly could be in the net this weekend, nothing confirmed, but he will be between the pipes sooner rather than later.

The JRFlyers have gone through a lot over the past couple months, making sure they can put their best foot forward once the season comes. Here’s what some of the players had to say about the team and where it stands:

“Our mentality is one of the best traits that we have as a team. We all came together fast this year, and our chemistry is great.” McDevitt

“As a team, we are doing well and we have a good group. Everyone is willing to learn and has bought into the systems. I'm very excited to get the season started, but it is also bittersweet. It is my last year of junior hockey so that is a tough to wrap my head around, but I love this team. I love playing for and representing the JRFlyers. I’m ready to get rolling. Our work ethic has been great, we have made mistakes, but everyone is willing to learn and make sure that they get it right.” Weinbrenner

“Coach talks about how we all come from different teams from around the world. Watching and seeing everyone buy into the systems has been cool to see. We have great skating up front, and a solid defensive unit. It’s super exciting, and it’s cool that we start off against Jerramie (Jerramie Domish is Jerry’s son, who was the Assistant Coach last year). Can’t wait to take on a new team and see what they are up to.” Kiemel

The JRFlyers open the 2018-19 season on the road against the new kids of the EHL. This is Team Maryland’s first year in the junior hockey world. So far, they have had a tough start. Maryland was swept by the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and they didn't even score a goal. The following weekend the Philadelphia Revolution rolled through with 14-1 and 5-2 victories. Maryland also had a game on Wednesday against another new team, the New Jersey 87s. (Last season the 87s only had an EHL Premier Team, now they have both) The 87s took care of them with a 5-0 win. Maryland has been shut out 3 out of their first 5 games to start the year. This bodes well for the JRFlyers since this will be their first regular season action. The Divisions have been shaken up as well with the new teams entering the EHL. The JRFlyers are in Mid Atlantic Conference - South Division. Along with them are their rivals: Philadelphia Little Flyers, Philadelphia Revolution, and the new teams, the North Carolina Golden Bears, and Team Maryland. For a complete breakdown of the Conferences/Divisions you can visit easternhockeyleague.org.

Every JRFlyers game live be broadcast live on HockeyTV.com. If you haven’t subscribed already, now’s your chance to save some money. If you subscribe before October 1st, you save $20! Even if you miss a game, you can go back and watch it anytime.

The JRFlyers season ended in disappointment in 2017-18 and missed the playoffs by one point. This year the veterans are extra motivated, and that passion has gone into the new players as well. Just a few more days, and the quest for the EHL Frozen Finals begins!
