The Jr Flyers sent 4 teams (12UT1, 14UT1, 16UT2, 19UT2) to compete in Buffalo, NY this past weekend at the Buffalo Inferno.  The 12UAAA and 16UAA teams both made it to the semi-finals, while the 14UAAA team finished first in round-robin play and advanced all the way to the championship game.

Recaps

12UAAA -  The 12U girls made it to the semifinals and finished third in a competitive field.  Ava Thomas led the scoring with 8 goals, Makenna Sanders chipped in three, Madison Morris had two, Gabrielle Snedeker and  Skylar Campanile had one each.  Kayla Czukoski played well in net allowing only 11 goals in five games.

14UAAA - The 14U girls lost the championship game vs Syracuse Valley in a tightly contested 1-0 game.  Olivia Cimorelli was outstanding in net giving up a tournament low 5 goals in six games, including three shutouts.  Phoebe Fisher led the way in scoring, tickling the twine a whopping four times.  Other scorers were Morgan Hendler (2), Angelina Mirto (2), Lindsay Moses, Cecilia Petchkofski and Chloe Needham-Potts each collecting one each.

16UAA - Started strong with a 5-0 win against the Arizona Lady Wildcats 16/17U team.  In game #2, they lost a close game 1-0 to the Buffalo Bison’s but followed up with a strong performance and 3-2 win against a physical Carolina Jr Hurricanes 19U team.  In the next game, the girls came out strong again and beat the Skaneateles Lakers 4-0 and finished the preliminary round with a 3-1 record and third place in their division.  In the quarterfinals on Sunday, the team faced the Markham-Stouffville Stars, a Canadian 17UA team, in a very competitive contest.  The Jr. Flyers opened the scoring in the first period but gave up two late first period goals to go down 2-1.  The Jr. Flyers scored early in the third period and again late in the third period with 51 seconds remaining and held on for the win.  In the semifinals the Jr. Flyers girls faced the North Shore Warhawks from Chicago, IL.  The Jr. Flyers played a strong game and outshot their opponent 27-15 but lost the game 2-0 to the Warhawks who were the eventual tournament champions and ended the weekend at 7-0.  Overall, it was a great weekend of hockey for the girls against some competitive teams and they hope to benefit from that experience going forward in the season.

19UAA - The JrFlyers 19AA started strong at the tournament with a spirited 3-1 win over the Chicago Bruins. Unfortunately, our winning run finished quickly in a not-unexpected 7-0 loss to eventual tournament winners NOVA IceDogs. It was still all to play for on Saturday morning against local favorites Buffalo Regals, but a controversial last-second goal broke a hard-fought tie and sent our team to locker room with a disappointing 4-3 loss. We entered the afternoon still hoping to sneak into the playoff round, but our team's short bench finally took its toll. Outmanned and outgunned, we lost a heartbreaking, very chippy game to another local team, Cazenovia, by a 3-1 score. The girls fought hard until the very last whistle, but sadly skated away with a 1-3 record and 5th out of 6th place in the standings.
