16UAA goes 2-2 vs. strong competition in NY

Weekend Wrap-Up:

The Jr. Flyers Girls 16UAA team traveled to northern NY this past weekend to play some competitive teams from Canada and NY state.  In the first game of the weekend the girls faced the Cornwall Typhoons, a 17UAA team from Cornwall, ON.  The team played hard but was challenged by a sizable and speedy opponent and finished with a 3-0 loss.  Later that afternoon the girls faced the Potsdam Ice Storm from Potsdam, NY who are currently ranked sixth at the 16UAA level.  The Jr Flyers came out strong and scored first but the girls lost 3-1 after giving up an empty net goal with 0.2 seconds left.  On Saturday evening, the team enjoyed watching the Clarkson University vs. Yale University men’s college hockey game.  On Sunday morning, the team faced Potsdam again and came out with a 4-2 victory with a hat trick from Maggie Jacoby and an outstanding performance from goaltender Mattie Robitzer.  In the fourth and final game of the weekend, the girls faced the Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder, a 17UA team from Cardinal, ON.  The game started with a friendly photo (see picture) but progressed to a competitive hockey game and the Jr. Flyers held on to a 2-1 win to finish the weekend 2-2-0.  Overall, the team performed well, and it was very good opportunity to play strong competition from Canada and northern NY.
