JRFlyers Forward Headed For DIII College Hockey

The JRFlyers are happy to announce that a second member of the team is heading for DIII College Hockey! Forward Adam Papayoanou has committed to University of Southern Maine.  Papayoanou is from Valencia, California and a ‘96 birth year. It has been a little bit of a journey for Papayoanou as he wasn’t with the JRFlyers to start the year. He started the season with the Connecticut Nighthawks but was involved in a trade back in November bringing him to the JRFlyers. Papayoanou has made a huge impact and is having a great season. His numbers for the season to this point is 11 goals and 22 assists for 33points which is second most on the team.

Despite being the newest member of the team he still enjoyed the ride. “I have had a great time with the JRFlyers. When I first got here it was a little bit struggle, but now I playing with Louie (Ludvig Nilsson) and Matt (Manning) and we have been playing well together. The organization has provided all the resources needed to get to college. They have a great gym, lots of ice time, and great coaching staff, so it felt like I was already at college.”

While attending Southern Maine, Papayoanou will pursue a degree in Psychology. He also has another objective in mind for his hockey career. “I want to play to the best of my ability and try to play in as many games as possible and work hard.”

Southern Maine is the next stop for Papayoanou, but he wanted to thank everyone who has helped him along the way. “I want to thank my family for being the main reason I am able to play hockey. I want to thank Jeff Tory, the GM of the Connecticut Nighthawks, who got me in connection with Southern Maine.  I also want to thank my coaching staff here with the JRFlyers organization for helping me become a better hockey player.” Even though it wasn’t a full season with the JRFlyers, Papayoanou expresses his appreciation for his teammates. “I’m gonna miss the guys the most. Even though I came to the team late, everyone has been real nice and I’m thankful for that. We are a good hockey team on and off the ice and I’ll miss them for sure.”

Coach Domish obviously saw the value in Papayoanou when he traded for him. He was an instant impact to the JRFlyers success and Coach is excited for his future. “Adam has exceptional hands and great speed. Choosing Southern Maine is excellent for him because they play on an Olympic size rink which will give him a lot of time and space. I wish him the best and I think he can have a great four year career.” Head Coach Jerry Domish

Congratulations Adam on your junior hockey career. From all of us here with the JRFlyers we wish you nothing but the best as you venture to College Hockey. We are proud of you and thankful to have you as a part of the JRFlyers family.
