Jr. Flyers alum Poddubnyi shines for Erie Otters of OHL

Jr. Flyers alum Gera Poddubnyi (’99 birth year) is having a breakout year for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The forward is averaging almost a point a game (16 goals and 13 assists) in thirty OHL games this season.

The Sarov, Russia native, who came to the United States without ever having spoken English, began his youth career playing for the Jr. Flyers Bantam Major team during the 2013-14 season where he had 18 points (13 goals and 5 assists) in 21 games.

During the 2015-16 season Poddubnyi averaged 2.68 points a game with an astonishing 75 points (45 goals and 30 assists) in 28 AYHL games.

Poddubnyi’s last year as Jr. Flyer he had 99 points (52 goals and 47 assists) in a total of 53 AYHL and Tier 1 Elite games.

After leaving the Jr. Flyers, Poddubnyi was selected by the Otters in the first round of the 2016 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) draft (58th overall). His rookie season Poddubnyi had 20 points in 65 games and was a member of the 2016-17 OHL champions. To date, the Jr. Flyers alum has played a total of 160 games for Erie earning 85 total points (43 goals and 42 assists). He is currently second on the team in total points.
