West Chester, PA – The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers Girls are pleased to announce the commitment of 19U Defenseman, Grace Dwyer, to Cornell University starting in the Fall of 2022. Dwyer will be joining her sister, Lucy (lacrosse commit), as well as current Jr. Flyers teammate, Alexa Davis, at Cornell. Located in Ithaca NY, the Big Red finished their 2019-20 season as the #1-ranked team in Women’s hockey and Head Coach, Doug Derraugh, was named Coach of the Year.

Dwyer is entering her 4th season with the Jr. Flyers, including a 14U Bronze medal at 2018 Nationals, where she led the tournament in goals.  This past season, the 5’9”, 155-lbs. Wynnewood-native compiled 30 goals, 31 assists, and a +81 rating in 65 games, while leading the team in shots (201) and PP assists (12).

Jr. Flyers Coach/GM, Chris Baer, said “Gracie is an exceptional young lady – her work ethic, competitiveness, and attention to detail are unmatched. She gets better every day and we are all extremely excited to see what the future holds for her. Watching her develop and mature as a person, player, and leader, has been truly remarkable.”

Prior to joining the Jr. Flyers, Dwyer began her skating & hockey career at Wissahickon Skating Club before moving on to play 5 seasons with the Valley Forge Minutemen 2004 team. During that time, she also competed at the Brick Invitational for Team Pennsylvania and the PeeWee Quebec Tournament for the Hershey Jr. Bears.

In her statement, Dwyer wrote:

“First of all, I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, friends, and family for all their continued support with my dreams and aspirations. I would like to thank Coach Baer, Coach Restuccia, and Coach Beats (Jr. Flyers). And also, Coach Sutow, Coach Geverd, Coach Tyson, and Coach Porkka (Minutemen). I also want to thank Wissahickon Skating Club, especially my dad and Richie Podulka, for teaching me the game early on and always encouraging me.

I chose Cornell because of its great academics and hockey and lacrosse programs. I felt that it was the best place for me on and off the ice and field. I can’t wait to be a part of Cornell’s school and athletic programs! #GBR”

Congratulations, Gracie! Cornell University Class of 2026.
